After my earlier wanderings, I returned to my bunk, and found a postcard on the mattress.

I looked at the picture. Chinese countryside. T'ing. I debated not reading it.

"Dear Tim,

Your mother told me what happened, please write and let me know how things are.

T'ing"

That's it. no Love, no Sincerely, no Your Friend. Just, T'ing. Okay so it's a postcard, how mushy can those things be?

open for interaction. come prevent the emo outbreak

Tim was curious. "Find out anything interesting?" Inside or outside? "I'd invite you in but I've spent most of the afternoon in there." he stepped outside and let the door shut behind him.

"That there are still a lot of stars in the night shy even this far from home."

Tim smirked, and glanced up at the sky. "You're lucky to see any from where I'm from." he said. "too much light. But out here..." he glanced at her. "Learn anything shocking about the nature of the heavens?"

"They don't?" Tim said, not certain what she meant. He'd been thinking more about things that were now accepted as fact, that got people like Galileo excommunicated.

Gwynn smiled at him and then looked up at the sky. She pointed up.

"The north star... it's always in the same place, no matter where you go."

"Oh!" he said, leaning in a bit to follow along where she was pointing. and for no other reason. really "yeah. I knew that one." he squinted. "I think I might take astronomy next term." he said idly. "Like I said you can barely see any back home."
The sky, out in the preserve was really quite spectacular. in his opinion at least.

Gwynn, not thinking about it at all, leaned back against Tim a little.

"That's Cassopeia... or that's what I think Professor Ellie said."

Tim looked around at the sky. "I know there's constellations, i just don't know what, or where they are." He said. "REally all I know is, pretty."

"The stars are usually the one touchstone you always have. You focus on the North star if you get lost and you will always find your way back."

Tim glanced sidelong at her. "Good to know." he said. He couldn't think of anything else to say just then.

Gwynn dropped her arm, a slight blush tingeing her cheeks.

"Sometimes, I use too many words," she said with a smile.

"That's okay." Tim said, smiling. "I like your accent. Care to take a load off?" he gestured towards the fire circle in front of the cabin. There was no fire in it just now.

That blush was back.

Gwynn nodded and walked over to the fire circle and settled down on one of the logs.

"It's sad that we'll have to move back into the dorms soon. I've liked it out here."

"Yeah." Tim agreed, settling down on the log beside her. Not too close, but, close.

"I've never spent any real length of time in the woods before, I hope we'll be back out here often."

"By the way, the Earth revolves around the sun, not the other way around." He looked to judge her reaction.

Gwynn looks at him. slightly confused. "It does what?"

Tim grimaced. "Guess they didn't get to that part." Tim muttered. "Okay so, the earth? It's round. And it...maybe I'm not the one who should be telling you this, since you have an astronomy teacher."

*blush*grin*

"Okay, well," he scooted closer and pointed at the moon, which was partially hidden by the clouds. "What do you already know about the moon?" he asked.

Tim nodded. "Okay, well let's see...the moon and the Earth, they're both round. And the moon, revolves around the earth. And it doesn't give off it's own light, it actually reflects light from the sun." When the hell did he turn into Mr. Wizard?

"Oh, and it's entirely possible the church will not like things that you may learn in astronomy."

Tim thought for a minute. "Uhm, well as an example, in, I think the 1600's, a man by the name of Galileo will discover that the Sun, not the Earth, is the center of the Solar System. the church didn't like that because it contradicted what they said, that the Earth was the center of the Universe, and so they ex-communicated him. I think they even imprisoned him as a heretic." he looked at her.

"Did that make sense?" he asked. Acutely aware of how close he was sitting to her.
