Tim and Veronica's Apartment, Sunday

Into the second half of the summer already. It was hard to believe how fast the time went sometimes. His storytelling class had gone rather well. He liked how the vacation class was going so far too.

It would be sad to leave the island again when the summer was done. It had not disappointed in terms of strange things happening, nor of cool people to meet. Though back home continued to drop some fun stuff in his lap too.

It was probably a good thing that he hadn't actually expected to see any of his old friends here. It made the fact that while he and Gwynn were able to catch up, the spark between them was gone, easier to take. Plus she was dating his old room mate. Heh. Catching up with some of his friends at the dance had been quite nice as well.

*BZZT!* Aha!

He went to the oven and removed the cake that had been baking in there. He'd heard on the radio that Veronica had celebrated her birthday and out of guilt for missing it, he was making her a cake. With a recipe he'd gotten off the internet.

Veronica came in from running some errands.

"Ooh, someone is cooking," she remarked.

"At great risk to my manly reputation, yes." Tim replied. "It's not frosted yet, but, well happy birthday."

"Aww, you didn't have to do that," Veronica said. "But thank you."

"Well I figured it was kind of tacky of me to not do something for my room mate's birthday. Though I can't match a ball pit at Mooby world."

Veronica laughed. "I don't think you're insane enough to think of something like that."

"I'm not sure any one is insane like Deadpool."

"I'm pretty sure that's a good thing."

"And don't get me wrong, I've met some pretty crazy people in my time. Including a banshee with impulse control and an ancestral ghost that...you know I don't think I can accurately describe Yang."

Veronica laughed again. "Deadpool is certainly in a category of his own. But that doesn't mean I don't appreciate a bit of a normal birthday celebration."

"Well good. And as long as you're here, what flavor frosting would you prefer?" The cake itself was vanilla.

"Um... coconut if we have it? Chocolate if we don't," she decided.

"Coconut? Uh, I could run out and get some. Or I could try and create some, but I don't know how well that would work."

"Nah, chocolate is fine," Veronica said.

She went to put on a pot of coffee.

"Chocolate it is. I hope you like the cake, it's from an old family recipe. Just, not my family."

"It's hard to go wrong with cake."

Tim began to spread the frosting on the cake. "So, how's your class going?"

"Pretty good," she said, sitting down and waiting for both the cake and the coffee. "It's a small group, but that means I can give them more personal attention. How about you?"

"Aside from having to cancel it last week, not bad. I have to remember to ask Zoe about taking them to Busch Gardens or something."

Veronica nodded. "That would be fun."
